Nine, Nine, Nein

Today's muse: Daily Writing Practice

Nine, Nine, Nein

We promised
together.
Many years
weathered.
I gave:
Nine.

Never again,
you said.
Another chance,
you begged.
I gave:
Nine.

Pictures they
asked me.
Proving what
they see.
I gave:
Nine.

Charges have
been laid
Mercy’s all
you prayed.
I gave:
Nein.

Sehr gut! Loved the play on the word. Hoping it's not true, but surmising it is...heavy with sorrow, things taken, not returned.

I suspect as well there is some personal reflection entwined here. This is what makes poetry powerful, the emotion behind the prose. The tone is solemn and I too love the word play, hence, "Nine, Nine, Nein". The last stanza really slapped me across the face, had to read it again.
