The Echos

Though she tried with all her might, the deafening echo of her stomping feet couldn’t drown the voices that ruled in her mind.

Excellent! I love the contrast of the real-life noise with the only-in-her-mind noise.

The stomping feet--she is running from those voices, right? Shivers.

Hearing voices must be so hard.
She won't be able to run fast enough. Sad for sure but well written!

Anyes said...

Aww, how hard it has to be. Poor her, noise inside and outside never any peace :-(

Such tragedy in such few words. Really great.

Feels a little Edgar Allen Poe--in the best way...what are the voices saying?

@Pat: Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between the two.

@Melanie: She is. Let's hope she outruns them!

Ooh...She is hearing voices... Very different take this week, and definitely a book I would not put down!

Catherine Denton said...

This is probably an odd response, but I laughed because I've SO been there!

Monica Manning said...

@Susan Forbes: I may working the voices into my book. God knows I keep hearing them!

@Catherine Denton: Not odd at all! If we can laugh at them, the voices just might go away! :O)

I hope she manages to stomp loud enough that one day she will silence the voices. Great micro fiction! Cheers~
